Local

Ann Arbor-specific: Heating through snow season

Guidance

Outdoor Heat Pump Placement in Winter

Ask for the outdoor unit to be mounted on a level pad or stand above expected snow depth, with clear space around it for airflow. Keep it out of the path of roof snow slides and drip lines, and ask where defrost meltwater will drain so it does not refreeze on a walkway or patio.
Guidance

Heat Pump, Furnace or Dual-Fuel?

Ask for a heat pump’s rated output at low outdoor temperatures, not only its efficiency rating. If you keep a gas furnace as backup, ask at what outdoor temperature the system switches over, then run the operating cost calculators with your own gas and electricity rates.
Guidance

Plan for the Season

Book furnace service before the first cold snap and AC service before the first hot, humid stretch. Ask for a written heat-load calculation so equipment is sized to your home rather than to a rule of thumb.
Rebates

Rebates and Incentives for Ann Arbor Homes

Ann Arbor homes may be served by DTE Energy or Consumers Energy, depending on the property address. Confirm your electricity and natural gas providers before purchasing equipment. Rebate availability depends on utility service, equipment eligibility, installation requirements and current program terms.
Last reviewed October 15, 2026. Rebate amounts and program terms change, so confirm current figures with your utility before you buy.
Ontario cities
Eligible DTE residential customers may qualify for the following rebates:

DTE updates its rebate tables from time to time, so check the linked DTE pages for current tiers before you buy.

Funds are limited and first-come, first-served, and terms can change without notice.
Heat pump incentives beyond the utilities
These programs are separate from the DTE Energy and Consumers Energy rebates above. Eligibility, income limits and funding change, so check each official page before you buy.
